A cyclist has passed away after a collision with a car on Hyde Road this morning.
It happened at around 1:45am this morning (Wednesday 2 June) when the cyclist, a 56-year-old man, was hit by a black Saab which was being driven by a 66-year-old man close to Debdale Park.
Emergency services attended the scene and took the cyclist to hospital in a critical condition. He sadly passed away a short time later.
The driver of the car was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in custody.
The road was closed for much of the morning but reopened at around 9:30am.
Police Sergeant Matt Waggett, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This is a tragic incident in which a man has very sadly lost his life and our thoughts are with his family during this extremely difficult time.
"We are working hard to piece together how the collision happened and we would urge anyone who witnessed this incident, or anyone who may have dashcam footage to get in touch as soon as possible."
