Council confirms plans for services on bank holiday for Queen's funeral

Tameside Council has announced plans for its services on Monday 19 September – the day of the Queen's funeral – which has been declared a national Bank Holiday.

Tameside Libraries, Museums, Customer Service and call centre will be closed on the day however emergency response will continue and all booked funerals will go ahead.

To contact the council in an emergency on the Bank Holiday, call 0161 342 2222.

There will be no bin collections on Bank Holiday Monday 19 September.

If you were due a green bin collection on Monday, it will be collected on Tuesday instead.

If you were due a black or blue bin collection on Monday, it will be collected on Wednesday instead.

There will be no brown bin collections from Monday to Wednesday to enable crews to catch up with Monday's rounds.

Tameside Council Executive Member Cllr Denise Ward, who is responsible for waste services, said: “We’ve agreed these changes to collections on the day of the Queen’s funeral to allow our bin crews, who work most other bank holidays, the opportunity to watch the funeral and pay their respects to Her Majesty. We also didn’t want the noise of bin collections to disturb the peace and opportunity for quiet reflection in our residential neighbours during the funeral service.

“Crews will catch up with all but the brown bin collections, which will be collected on the scheduled day the following week. Thank you to everyone for your understanding in these extenuating circumstances.”

All Active Tameside centres will also be closed on the Bank Holiday.

But household waste recycling centres will be open as normal on the Bank Holiday.

Tameside Council Executive Leader Cllr Gerald Cooney said: “Tameside has come together like never before to mourn in the death of Queen Elizabeth II. We want everyone to have the opportunity to pay their respects and share in the national moment of reflection, remembering a woman and queen who has been truly great in our time, putting duty above all else and serving her country with love, wisdom and dignity.”
