Stalybridge residents enjoyed a home-cooked Christmas dinner thanks to volunteers at a church kitchen.
George’s Kitchen was set up inside St George’s Church in the town in 2021.
It’s aim is to provide healthy and nutritious meals for the residents surrounding the church.
Although the group is run from St George’s Church, it is a joint initiative between the church and Action Together, who provided funding for it to get off the ground.
Each week, volunteers cook nutritious meals which are then frozen so they can be delivered at a later date.
The volunteers also provide a listening ear and a friendly smile.
One of the cooks, Alison Hardy, said: “The cooks don’t get the chance to meet the lovely customers. So this year we thought it would be a good idea for customers and volunteers to get together.”
The visitors enjoyed a full Christmas dinner, with all the trimmings, in the church.
There was also music and bingo - but most of all fellowship.
Rebecca Lee, who is the manager at Blandford House, where some of the customers live, said a big thank you to the organisers who invited her residents to the Christmas party.
She added: “We have four residents here at Blandford House who receive a hot meal once a week. The volunteers bring the meals and the residents look forward to a hot meal, friendly face and a chat.
“The volunteers work so hard to prepare and distribute the meals each week and here at Blandford House we are very grateful.”
