Local charities, community groups, and voluntary organisations are being invited to apply for grants to help raise awareness of hate crime and promote inclusivity across Tameside.
Tameside Council’s Community Safety Team has launched this year’s round of community grants, funded by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA). Constituted community organisations, charities, and Community Interest Companies (CICs) can apply for up to £500 to support activities and projects aimed at tackling hate crime.
Projects must be delivered in Tameside, benefit local residents, and take place primarily during Greater Manchester Hate Crime Awareness Week (2–8 February 2026).
Applications open on Monday 29 September and close on Friday 24 October.
Eligible activities could include events or workshops that increase understanding of what hate crime is, highlight the consequences, promote reporting routes, and celebrate community cohesion.
Organisations are encouraged to align their proposals with the four key priorities of the GM Hate Crime Plan:
- Prevention – bringing communities together to promote cohesion and celebrate diversity.
- Raising awareness – helping people understand what hate crime is and the impact it has.
- Increasing reporting – ensuring residents know how and where to report incidents.
- Improving the victim experience – making sure victims are supported throughout the process.
Cllr Taf Sharif, Executive Member for Community Cohesion, said: “We are encouraging all local charities and organisations to take part in this fantastic offer aimed at supporting the delivery of hate crime awareness activities and workshops. It is so important that as a borough, we demonstrate unity and inclusivity wherever we can. By working in partnership, we can create a borough where everyone feels safe, valued, and included.”
Cllr Stephen Homer, Executive Member for Towns, Transport and Connectivity, added: “This is an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of hate crime and the factors surrounding it. The teams do a great job countering hate crime and offering support to those who wish to get involved, so please do take part if this is something you can offer.”
To apply, hard copies of the application form are available by contacting Sue Moorcroft, Community Safety Partnerships Officer, at sue.moorcroft@tameside.gov.uk. Forms can also be accessed online via the Action Together Funding website (Tameside section).
