It was a case of Heroes for heroines after Councillor John Taylor wrapped up the latest stop on his tour of Tameside's care homes.
Dropping in at the Sycamores, Newton, he met care worker Brenda Freeburn who jokingly asked him if he had brought any chocolates.
Never one to resist a challenge, he roped in fellow Dukinfield councillor Jackie Lane and returned with a large tub of Cadbury's Heroes.
Cllr Taylor, who is Tameside Council’s executive member for adult services, said: “I won’t be taking gifts to every home I visit but the way Brenda asked for chocolate was so sweet that she melted my heart.
“Even though my diary’s choc-a-bloc I had to go back to show I have a few Twix up my sleeve.
“Seriously though, I was very impressed with what I saw at the Sycamores. Like every home I’ve visited, the staff were very hard-working and committed to providing residents with the best-possible care.
“As I’ve said before, when the lockdowns were on and we were all being told to stay at home and avoid personal contact, they had to go into work every day. It was the same for those employed in supported housing and home care.”
Cllr Taylor says he intends to visit every care home in Tameside to give his personal thanks to staff, learn more about their work, and meet residents.
