Three young children have kindly donated £100 which they had saved up from their Christmas and pocket money to their local hospice Willow Wood.
Eleven-year-old Logan Watt, his seven-year-old sister Isabella and their nine-year-old cousin Amy Watt made a Covid-safe visit to the Ashton-based hospice last week to make the generous donation.
The children all live in Ashton - Logan and Isabella go to Corrie Primary while Amy attends Rose Hill Primary - and they were really excited to visit the hospice to hand over their savings.
Their grandma Moira is usually a regular at the hospice's monthly Coffee Mornings and is really missing them, however, like most fundraising events, they have been suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. Naturally, this is having a detrimental effect on the hospice's finances.
Communications Officer Lynn Fothergill said: “We were all so touched by this lovely donation, it’s just so special when children want to help others. It seemed even more special coming as it did during Random Acts of Kindness Week. Logan, Amy and Isabella were absolutely fantastic, just so polite and engaging – they are a credit to their families.
"And £100 makes a real difference to us as well. Our running costs are over £2.8million this year which is so hard to visualise, but their pocket & Christmas money covers our energy costs for one day.
"That’s heating, lighting, cooking, running all our cleaning equipment, washing, drying and ironing up to 12 lots of bedding every day, plus staff uniforms – we really do appreciate it, and it’s true to say that every single penny donated goes to help local people. Our thanks again to all three of them."
