Celebrating Excellence: Tameside Primary Care Awards 2025

Last night (Thursday 18th September 2025), Dukinfield Town Hall was alive with pride and applause as the Tameside Primary Care Awards celebrated the dedication and compassion of those working across the borough’s primary care healthcare services.

With eight categories and 50 nominations, the event highlighted the remarkable individuals and teams who continue to make a difference in patients’ lives.

The awards were given out by community representatives, including Johnathan Clutterbrook, Donna Thomas from the Anthony Seddon Trust, Paul Dodge, and Glynn Goodchild, Chair of Healthwatch. Together, they set the tone for a celebration that recognised not just achievements but also the heart of primary care in Tameside.

The Innovative Change in Primary Care Award went to the Ashton Medical Group GP Hub, praised for reshaping services to improve access and outcomes for patients. Collette Yates received the Making a Difference to Individual Patients Award, honouring her tireless commitment to going above and beyond for those in her care.

New talent was also celebrated, with Elizabeth Gruhn winning the Service Change Made by Someone New to Primary Care Award and Supporting colleagues was awarded to Dr Nita Taylor for her commitment to organising wellbeing events for hard working staff.

The importance of research and teaching was recognised too. Ashton Medical Group claimed the Primary Care Research Award, while the Primary Care Teaching Award was jointly awarded to Dr Stuart Murray and Matt Gandy, and Rachel Hill, for their efforts to nurture the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Community connections were celebrated when Heather Palmer received the Community Engagement Award for her work in running so many schemes which improve the health of local people, who find it difficult to access care. The Primary Care Team of the Year, awarded jointly to Ashton Medical Group and St Andrews Medical Centre, two teams whose dedication to patients embodies the very best of Tameside healthcare.

Every nomination reflected the extraordinary efforts happening daily in our local surgeries, clinics, and communities. Above all, the awards were a heartfelt reminder of the value of saying “thank you” to others.
