In 2021, Keith Harrison was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma and told he had just two years to live without treatment. Fortunately, he was able to undergo life-saving immunotherapy at The Christie. By August 2023, on his 65th birthday, Keith received the incredible news that he was cancer-free.
Two years later, on 22 August 2025, his 67th birthday, Keith celebrated this milestone by organising and compering the “Chippers Christie Charity Golf Day” at Ashton-under-Lyne Golf Club. The event brought together 92 golfers for a daytime competition and 90 guests for an evening of entertainment, all in gratitude to The Christie for saving his life.
Friends, family, and local businesses rallied to support the event, donating fantastic prizes for the raffle, auction, and golf competitions. Highlights included a signed Ruben Dias shirt generously donated by Manchester City FC. The day was blessed with glorious weather, perfect for golf.
After a hearty bacon butty and coffee, players teed off under blue skies, taking on challenges such as Beat the Pro on the 18th, longest drive, and nearest the pin. The prize presentation back at the clubhouse was a lively affair, with Neville Kay arranging the displays beautifully and Nigel Kay delighting guests as he handed out awards with his trademark humour.
Throughout the day, Christie wristbands were sold to allow entry into fun games including Heads and Tails, Play Your Cards Right, and a Mr & Mrs competition. Evening entertainment featured a stunning performance by singer Ella Yates, alongside the raffle and auction.
Thanks to everyone’s hard work and generosity, the event raised an incredible £11,163.33 for The Christie.
