‘Bright Journeys’ helps pupils stay safe on school run

Schoolchildren across Greater Manchester will benefit from an initiative to help them stay safe and visible on their journeys to and from school.

The scheme, launched by Barratt Homes, will provide up to 2,000 pupils across the country with equipment to help them shine on their commutes throughout the school year.

Pupils receive a selection of hi-vis items such as vests, drawstring kit bags, and reflective bag tags, ensuring they remain visible during the school run, particularly as darker mornings and evenings have returned.

Bright Journeys aims to encourage safer, more confident, and active travel to school, while helping children develop positive habits that can benefit their health, wellbeing, and independence.

Following the donations of equipment, schools will also be invited to take part in a road safety poster competition, encouraging pupils to think creatively about staying safe while travelling to and from school.

Rhys Nicholson, Managing Director at Barratt Homes Manchester, said: “At Barratt Homes, we are committed to creating communities where families can thrive.

"Through Bright Journeys, we are helping local children stay safe and visible while encouraging active travel and raising awareness of road safety.

"We hope the equipment provides pupils and parents with extra confidence during the school run, particularly during the darker autumn and winter months."

The campaign forms part of Barratt Homes' ongoing commitment to supporting the communities surrounding its developments and investing in initiatives that have a positive impact on local families.

Bright Journeys was launched in October to align with Walk to School Month. And Road Safety Week (15th to 21st November) should further encourage safer and more active journeys to school.
