Bomb scare bus evacuated on estate

A bomb scare from an unattended item caused the evacuation of a Bee Network bus on Monday afternoon.

Passengers on the 387 from Hyde to Ashton - which also calls at Tameside Hospital - alerted the bus driver to a seemingly abandoned package as it made its way through Hattersley.

Police soon cordoned off the scene near the junction of Underwood Road and Hattersley Road West, where at least three response cars were on hand.

A spokesperson for TfGM said: “Police were called to an unattended item on a 387 bus in Underwood Road, Hyde, at around 2.30pm on Monday afternoon.

“This did not require any further action, and buses were diverted via Mottram Road and Stockport Road for a short time while officers were in attendance.”

It is not known what was inside the package.
