Barnardo's charity, family and friends pay fitting tribute to big-hearted Nicky

In loving memory of Nicky Foulkes, family and friends have raised funds for Barnardo's in Denton and Gregory's Place.

A significant patron of Barnardo's Denton, Nicky Foulkes, had raised thousands of pounds for the charity.

In her memory and to pay tribute to Nicky, her friends, family, and colleagues had organised a special event at the Barnardo's Denton outlet last Friday.

"I can get quite emotional when talking about my sister. She had a massive heart," said Nicky's sister Hayley Coyne.

"As a family, we are still coming to terms with losing Nicky and grieving but have taken great comfort in the monies raised in her honour – and we are happy that the money will be going to such a great cause to support Gregory's Place. Nicky would have been so proud," Hayley informed.

Gregory's Place is a community hub in Ardwick.

The Barnardo's hub supports the local community in a variety of ways – hosting brew and biscuit mornings, uniform swaps, family yoga, drop-in sessions and more.

Nicky was a kind and giving soul and would help anyone out despite her struggles, Hayley mentioned. A passionate supporter of Barnardo's, she had volunteered for many years, raising hundreds of pounds through her efforts. Despite being terrified of heights, she even participated in a sponsored rock-climbing event to raise money.

Remembering Nicky, Barnardo's Denton's manager Nadine Quirk said:

"Nicky first joined us representing her employer Dyno-Rod and British Gas in 2015, but soon she went beyond that. She would often come here and volunteer in her free time. She had raised a lot of funds for us. She was very passionate about the children.”

She sadly passed away in April at the age of 52.

"The money raised in her honour goes to Berardo's children's services, Manchester and Gregory's Place. They're going to make a 'Nicky's corner'," Nadine added.
