The best of recent indie cinema is coming to a Tameside arts centre.
Launching at The Vale on 21 October, 2026 with British feelgood film I Swear, the new programme will present six acclaimed independent films over the next six months.
The rest of the series - which offers the chance to see current films on the big screen in Mossley for just £5 - is still under wraps, but will be revealed on the arts centre's website later this month.
Based on an inspiring true story, BAFTA-winning I Swear (2025) is the story of Scottish teenager John Davidson. Diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome in the 1980s, when the condition was little known and misunderstood, John’s world falls apart around him. But a chance encounter with an old friend sets the aspiring football player on a new path, kick-starting a remarkable journey.
Game of Thrones' Robert Aramayo gives a BAFTA-winning performance as John Davidson and is backed by a supporting cast that includes Maxine Peake.
The six-month film programme is supported by Film Hub North with National Lottery funding on behalf of the BFI Film Audience Network.
Johnny Clifford, programming manager, The Vale, said: "This funding has enabled us to bring some of the very best in current independent cinema to local audiences, starting with feelgood film I Swear.
“The programme aims to give local people the chance to see award-winning independent cinema on the big screen without travelling into Manchester.
"Our 90-seat digital theatre, boasts Dolby 7.1 surround sound, a large format screen and a fully stocked bar. It's a great local space to catch a movie and we know that each of the six monthly screenings will be an enjoyable and sociable community event."
I Swear (15) will be shown on 21 October, 2026 at The Vale, Unit 2, Vale Mill, Micklehurst Road, Mossley, Tameside OL5 9JL. Doors open at 6.30pm, with the film starting at 7.15pm.
Tickets are £5 in advance or £6 on the door. A limited number of pay-as-you-feel tickets are also available: https://the-vale.co.uk/event/i-swear
