An Audenshaw couple are fundraising to support families experiencing the loss of a baby, after suffering their own bereavement.
Stephen and Rachael Marrow lost their daughter, Emily, on 23 July after a stillbirth. The ‘heart-breaking’ experience made the couple determined to raise funds for those going through the same journey of grief.
They plan to organise fundraising events and donate to the three charities which supported them.
The charities are The Harebell Suite at Tameside Maternity Unit, SANDs and Tommy’s.
However, they want to thank other charities 4Louis, Aching Arms UK and Judah’s Cloud for helping them to create lasting memories of Emily.
Stephen added: “We are determined that although we have been through the worst to make it a positive not only for Emily, to give her a legacy she'd be proud of, but to raise awareness for anyone else who unfortunately has been, might be going through or may go through, or is even worried about losing their child during pregnancy.
“The charities we have chosen are all small charities which rely a lot on public fund raising. The taboo of miscarriage and losing a child at any point doesn't get enough public support, so if we can raise money to get to a point where it is acceptable, then the next person can feel reassured that the support is there.”
The first event for the couple will be the Manchester Half Marathon on October 10, but they’re also looking at the Tough Mudder, a 24-hour gaming marathon, change collecting and a 5km Ribbon Run on Baby Loss awareness week.
Both Rachel and Stephen are players at Aldwinians Rugby Union Football Club and will be hosting events there too.
