Ashton United in the Community and the Ashton United Supporters Club brought festive spirit to the Children’s Ward at Tameside Hospital on the evening of Monday 8th December, arriving with armfuls of gifts for young patients and hardworking staff.
Now in its third consecutive year, the heart-warming visit saw the groups deliver dozens of presents, equipment for the ward’s playroom, and thoughtful gifts for staff who support children and families throughout the festive period. The annual initiative has become a cherished tradition, highlighting the club’s commitment to giving back to the local community.
Representing Ashton United in the Community was Project Manager Steve Hobson, joined by Wayne Schofield, Chair of the Supporters Club, and first-team midfielder Alex Byrne, who all helped distribute the gifts and chat with families on the ward. The visit was organised by Stacy and Cat, who also took on the task of purchasing all the presents to ensure every child received something special.
Emily Whelan, Charity Manager at Tameside Hospital, expressed her gratitude for the club’s continued support, saying: “We’re really thankful to Ashton United for their amazing donation of Christmas presents for the Children’s Unit – donations like these make the world of difference for children and their families spending time in hospital over the festive season.”
The club’s gesture was warmly received by families and staff alike, providing a welcome boost at a time of year that can be particularly challenging for those in hospital.
