Travel on the Ashton Metrolink link line is suspended this morning after 80mph winds from Storm Lilian stopped trams from running.
A large tree has come down on Ashton New Road in Clayton, blocking both the tracks and regular traffic.
“A number of trees have been brought down by the storm across the Metrolink network leading to a number of lines being suspended,” reads a statement from Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM). “We are working to get all lines re-open as soon as possible. We are urging everyone to check their journey before they travel today.
“There is also disruption on the roads, which is impacting some Bee Network bus services, and disruption to rail services.”
Tram passengers can use their Metrolink tickets on Stagecoach and Bee Network buses, while people travelling to Altrincham, Manchester Airport or Rochdale can travel on Northern Rail trains.
Forecasters announced a yellow weather warning for wind across much of northern England, which runs from 5am to 11am this morning.
They warn of potential danger to life from flying debris, while damage to buildings and infrastructure is a possibility.
