Armed police swooped on Medlock Vale in Droylsden after reports of a man with a machete yesterday (Sunday April 6).
They arrested a man in the evening on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon.
He remains in custody for questioning.
A brief statement from GMP said there is “no current threat to the public”.
