Ashton learning and physical disability charity ‘Ambitions’ celebrated their third anniversary in style last Tuesday, with a birthday bash held at The Engine Room.
The group is self-funding and not-for-profit and run predominantly by volunteers that provides social activities, such as discos, outings, physical activities and social clubs to young adults with disabilities.
Originally set up in Oldham nine years ago, the charity branched out into Ashton three years ago, holding a disco at the Engine Room pub every Tuesday evening from 6pm to 9pm.
To mark the occasion, the Civic Mayor Tameside Councillor Leigh Drennan and his Consort, Mr Cory James, attended the event - which featured live entertainment by Wayne Bentley (Mr Loveboat) a local artist, photographer, photo booth, magician and a free buffet.
Ambitions is run by a passionate committee of just three people, chairman Jonathan Griffiths-Barnes, secretary Andy Slavko and treasurer Angela Pagett alongside a host of volunteers.
Jonathan and team leader Stephanie Griffiths-Barnes wanted to say thank you on behalf of Ambitions to all their fantastic members, carers, parents and especially their volunteers - without whom there would be no Ambitions.
“We would also like to extend our thanks to Cliff (manager of Engine Room pub) and landlord Mick and fantastic bar staff who are brilliant with our members and have been fantastic with us throughout the three years. Plus thank you for providing buffet for the evening!”
For more information on becoming a member, volunteer or supporter of Ambitions, you can telephone Jonathan on 07977075998, email jonathan.ambitions@hotmail.co.uk or visit their Facebook page at Ambitions Oldham & Ashton.
