Community spirit and style took centre stage last Sunday when Friends of Tameside Young Carers hosted a fundraising fashion show at Stanley Square Conservative Club in Stalybridge
The event proved a hit with those in attendance and raised £600 to support outings and activities for young carers across the borough.
The club generously donated its room free of charge for the charity event, with clothes provided by Poppet’s Place, a local boutique owned by Marie Travis, who has long supported community causes.
“We chose Poppet’s Place because I’ve enjoyed other fashion shows there,” said one of the organisers Joyce Howarth. “Marie was very interested in helping our charity and Cheryl at Stanley Square Conservative Club kindly offered the venue at no cost.”
The afternoon featured raffles filled with donated prizes, applause for the models, many young carers themselves and warm thanks all around. Special appreciation went to Angie Wild, whose tireless efforts helped raise awareness and secure support for the event.
Last summer, the charity treated 60 older young carers to a day out at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, a trip that cost £2,400. This year, trustees are hoping to run a similar outing, funded through events like the fashion show and other community initiatives.
“The trustees and the young carers are so grateful to everyone who attended and supported us,” Joyce added. “It means the world to know our community stands behind these amazing young people.”
