When Angie, a friendly face at the Morrisons café in Dukinfield, decided to do something special for charity, she certainly made it count, by bravely cutting off an incredible 19 inches of her hair to support patients undergoing cancer treatment at the Tameside Macmillan Unit.
Backed by her loyal café customers and colleagues, Angie’s inspiring gesture has raised an impressive £1,660 for the Tameside & Glossop NHS Charity. But thanks to the Morrisons Foundation, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary by doubling match funding for a limited time, her total has now grown even further, with an additional £2,000 boost bringing her grand total to a remarkable £3,660.
Speaking about the experience, Angie said she was overwhelmed by the kindness and support she received from the local community: “I wanted to do something meaningful to give back,” Angie said. “The Macmillan Unit helps so many people locally, and I’m just glad I could do my bit. The support from my customers and colleagues has been amazing - I couldn’t have done it without them.”
The funds raised will go towards supporting cancer patients across Tameside and Glossop, helping to provide comfort, care, and those small but important extras that make a difficult journey a little easier.
A spokesperson for the Tameside & Glossop NHS Charity said they were hugely grateful for Angie’s incredible efforts: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to Angie, her customers, and everyone at Morrisons Dukinfield. Their generosity will make a real difference to local people receiving treatment and their families.”
