Parishioners gathered at a Stalybridge church to help celebrate a very special birthday.
Dorothy Dawson turned 100 on Tuesday (29 March) and, to help her celebrate her exceptional milestone, St George’s Church held a birthday party for her on Sunday (27 March) after the church service.
Dorothy, who has been an active church member all her life - first at All Saints Church in Micklehurst until 2014 when it closed and then at St George’s in Stalybridge - was born in Denby Street, Mossley, on 29 March 1922.
She married Norman Dawson, who sadly died many years ago.
She has always lived in and around Mossley and was one of the founding members of Mossley Cancer Committee - she even requested donations in lieu of gifts to the charity.
Dorothy has many friends at the church with many wishing her a happy birthday.
Church warden Val Fallows said: “Dorothy is one of the nicest and kindest people I know. She is having to have multiple parties to make sure she gets to see all her friends.
“Dorothy made it clear that she does not want presents, instead, which is typical of this lovely lady, she has asked for people to give donations to charity.
“We all love Dorothy, she is an absolute star.”
