Young footballers flock to Glossop

Glossop North End Community Club recently hosted its largest football festivals to date, welcoming teams from across the High Peak and Greater Manchester to the Glossop Community Sports Hub and The Ellen White Pitch for two unforgettable weekends of grassroots football. 

On the weekend of 14–15 June, the club proudly ran its biggest girls’ football festival ever held in the area, with over 30 teams from Under-9 to Under-12 age groups taking part. 

More than 300 girls played across the weekend in a fully sanctioned event, supported by Derbyshire FA in partnership with Vesey UK, the club’s official kit provider. 

Every player received a donated match ball as part of the initiative, adding to a memorable experience that earned glowing feedback from players, parents, and coaches alike. 

The following weekend brought the boys’ turn in the spotlight. 

Despite warm conditions, teams from Under-7 to Under-11 took to the pitch in over 100 matches, featuring exciting finishes and impressive displays of talent. 

The club’s Hillside Café stayed busy throughout, while a fantastic team of volunteers ensured the events ran smoothly and created a welcoming, enjoyable atmosphere for all. 

The club was also proud to see local referees in action—many of whom developed through club programmes and recently completed FA courses held in Glossop. 

Looking ahead, the club is excited to host its upcoming Big Football Day in support of the England Lionesses as they begin their UEFA Euro 2025 journey.

Organised by Women’s First Team Manager and Club Secretary Natalie Mills, the day will include school tournaments, coaching and leadership workshops, referee introductions, and volunteering opportunities. 

Open sessions for Wildcats, Squad Girls, and Recreational Women’s Football will also take place, followed by screenings of the Lionesses’ games that evening.
