White adds bite to Robins

Ashton United have strengthened their midfield with the signing of Louis White from Marine.

The former Rochdale trainee, 23, graduated into senior football with Hyde United, scoring with a long distance free kick on his debut against Basford United on the opening day of the 2019/20 season.

He moved to Radcliffe after making just 5 appearances for the Tigers, before successful spells with Wythenshawe Amateurs and Glossop North End.

His performances at Surrey Street caught the eye of Halifax Town, where he spent the second half of the 2022/23 season, playing a cameo role as the Shaymen finished mid-table in the National League.

However, the sturdy midfielder was instrumental in pushing Marine to promotion through the Northern Premier League play-offs last term, scoring 10 goals in 52 matches, including the winner against Halifax in the FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round.

"Louis has proven he can affect the game in the final third with his goals and assists for Marine last season," says Ashton United boss Steve Cunningham. "He has great energy and legs so he gives us a different dynamic which compliments the other midfielders we have.

"He was one of our first targets and we are delighted he chose us over a host of clubs chasing him."

The Robins kick off their season on August 10 when Blyth Spartans visit Hurst Cross.
