Wet Weather Halts Season Start for the DCCL

Old Glossop Cricket Club

It is that much anticipated time of year when the Vanish comes out to scrub up the cricket whites for the start of a new season.

However, players and followers of the Derbyshire & Cheshire Cricket League will have an extra week to prepare, as the start of the season has been put back on account of the wet weather we have experienced in recent weeks. Many of our local cricket pitches are still suffering under excess rainwater, with ground staff unable to work on the wickets and outfields in readiness for action.

This has caused logistical problems for the DCCL, who have a jam-packed season of fixtures planned - with a comprehensive programme of senior mens, womens and junior cricket leagues, Cup matches and Sunday league games in the diary.

The decision has been made to put the start of the season back a week, with fixtures that had been planned for the 20th and 21st April now taking place at the end of the season on the 21st and 22nd September. Junior fixtures that were scheduled to be played on Monday 22nd April (U13’s) and Wednesday 24th April (U15’s)  are now cancelled.

The full league programme will now start on the 27th April, regardless of the weather (normal rules for abandoned fixtures apply), with a hope that the sun will shine on what promises to be an exciting season of cricket ahead. You can keep up to date with local fixtures at www.derbyshireandcheshirecricket.co.uk and read match reports in your local newspaper.
