Weekend Football Preview

A number of our sides continue their pre-season campaign at the weekend.

Following Tuesday night's postponement at Irlam due to a waterlogged pitch, Ashton United return to action at Tadcaster Albion. The Robins last competed against Altrincham and fell to a 2-0 defeat at Hurst Cross.

Elsewhere, Mossley return to Seel Park for the first time since last season and host Pontefract Collieries. David Fish's side have endured mixed fortunes so far, winning three and losing two of their friendlies. The Lilywhites last competed at Winsford United on Monday and lost 4-1.

Curzon Ashton will be hoping to bounce back from the narrow 1-0 defeat to Salford City on Tuesday night when Stockport County visit the Tameside Stadium. Steve Cunningham's side came from a goal behind at Stalybridge Celtic last weekend to record a 2-1 victory, but were unable to follow it up four days later.

Stalybridge host Marine this weekend following the 5-1defeat to Manchester United Under 23s on Tuesday. Scott Bakkor, who returned to the club for a second spell over summer, notched for the Celts.

And this evening (Friday), Hyde United entertain National League newcomers Grimsby Town at Ewen Fields. The Tigers enjoyed a 4-0 win at Glossop North End on Tuesday night. Glossop entertain Atherton Collieries at the Amdek Forklift Stadium on Saturday.
