WATCH: Local Boxing Coach Backs Gloves Up Knives Down Initiative

A local boxing coach is pushing for harder sentences to be imposed on people caught in possession of a knife.

Danny Hornsby, who runs the Little Rockys Boxing Camps in schools across the borough, has been left saddened and angered by the current spike in knife crime, in which three fatal stabbings occurred across the region on three consecutive weekends.

The former professional boxer is adamant that more needs to be done to deter youngsters from committing such crimes and is therefore backing the Gloves Up Knives Down initiative. Danny was set to promote the campaign in schools in 2020 but, due to the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, was denied the chance to do so. Now, with lockdown restrictions almost non-existent, he has big plans to get back in schools and push youngsters onto the right path in life.
