WATCH: Curzon boss Lakeland reflects on valuable point

National League North: Curzon Ashton 0-0 AFC Telford Utd

Curzon Ashton maintained their National League North playoff hopes with a hard-fought goalless stalemate against AFC Telford United. 

The game, which was played in heavy rain and swirling winds, was never going to be an attractive encounter and so it proved on the afternoon at the Tameside Stadium. Curzon were forced to play the second-half with ten-men after Scott Wilson was shown a straight red card towards the end of the first half. However, despite their numerical advantage, the Bucks were unable to find the back of the net and Curzon, who also created a number of good opportunities, did extremely well to thwart the threats and held out for a deserved point. 

The result kept the Nash in ninth spot and one point outside the playoffs, ahead of Tuesday nights fixtures.

Following the game, manager Adam Lakeland spoke to Curzon's media team and praised his players for the resolute display: "In the end I thought it was a good point, I don’t think we played as well as we would have liked to in the first half and I thought we had moments where we moved the ball ok and carved out two or three opportunities. 

"The goalkeeper has made a good save from Craig Mahon’s volley, but saying that they also had two or three good opportunities, and Chris Renshaw made a few good saves. Both teams had chances in the first half, although we didn’t move the ball as fluidly as we would have liked to, but the game completely changes when you get a man sent off, which looked soft to me. 

"At that point it's about adjusting and putting a new plan in place, hoping the players can stick to it and trying get us some kind of result. I thought every player put a shift in and in the end it’s not a bad point for us."
