United View: Reds end dismal season with a win

After 9 months, and the worst Premier League season in the club’s history, Manchester United’s season has finally ended.

A campaign of despair and heartbreak, with the rare moment of magic that all involved will hope to put behind them.

The Reds concluded their season with a 2-0 win over Aston Villa, who needed a result to secure a Champions League position.

However, the visitors were surprisingly flat, and United came away with a strong victory, albeit a Morgan Rogers’ disallowed goal sparked controversy, which allowed them to come away with three points.

United were uncharacteristically threatening, creating several opportunities before Amad opened the scoring, who then went on to win a penalty, scored by Christian Eriksen in his final game for the club.

Perhaps the most annoying aspect of this game was that it came just days after the dismal display against Spurs in the Europa League Final, leaving fans questioning why they didn’t showcase this attacking intent in Bilbao.

That defeat to Spurs means that, unlike last season’s FA Cup victory, the Reds have nothing to celebrate following a disastrous league campaign.

Along with missing out on Champions League football, which would have provided a significant cash influx to the club.

They can’t complain, as the team was extremely poor in the final, and thus the club will have a significantly important summer as they look to rebuild and ensure they don’t endure another season as bad as this one.

Ruben Amorim addressed the fans following Sunday’s finale, saying, “Today, after this disastrous season, I want to tell you the good days are coming. If there is one club in the world that proves in the past that it can overcome any situation, any disaster, it’s our club, it’s Manchester United Football Club.”

This came a few days after reports emerged Amorim had spoken to the squad, informing them he would be in charge next time, as well as telling Alejandro Garnacho to find a new club.

The United boss is undoubtedly far from impressed with Garnacho, and it is an indication of what fans can come to expect over the summer.

Perhaps now is the time United finally undergo the ‘open heart surgery’ once suggested by former interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

Luckily, Amorim has previous experience with rebuilding a team, overseeing a mass exodus at Sporting during his time as manager.

He and Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS consortium will have an exceptionally busy summer if they are to change the culture at the club.

It appears that moves have already been made by United, with the deal for Matheus Cunha from Wolves looking all but confirmed.

Furthermore, the Reds are looking to target Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford as they look to upgrade their attacking options.

Should this come to fruition, United will have secured two Premier League-proven players, which should see their attacking output improve, after only scoring 44 goals in the league – the fifth worst in the division.

It’s compelling what United will do in the transfer market, as there are only a small number of players in the squad who are not up for sale.

That includes Bruno Fernandes, who has been one of the few standouts this season, although should an exceptionally high bid come in for the Portuguese international, it may be too lucrative for the Reds to turn down.

We will have to wait and see how this all unfolds, but for now, fans can be grateful that another atrocious season has finished.

Only time will tell if the Reds can turn things around for the 25/26 campaign.
