Harry Maguire has signed a contract extension at Manchester United, keeping him at the club until June 2027, with an option for a further year.
It’s a good deal for the Reds, ensuring they retain one of their biggest leaders in the squad.
Maguire has shown he has the character needed to succeed at Manchester United, coming back from a period of turmoil to become a cult figure at the club.
And with Casemiro departing, retaining influential, experienced players will help as they look to challenge for silverware.
Speaking on his new contract, Maguire said, “Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour. It is a responsibility that makes myself and my family proud every single day.
“I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club to at least eight seasons and continue to play in front of our special supporters to create more amazing moments together.
“You can feel the ambition and potential of this exciting squad. The determination throughout the whole club to fight for major trophies is clear for everyone to see, and I am confident that our best moments together remain ahead of us.”
The last paragraph is an encouraging sign of what’s taking place behind the scenes, with United looking to replicate the success of last summer’s transfers and further strengthen the squad ahead of the 26/27 season.
Whether or not United will look to bring in any other centre-halves is uncertain, but keeping the England international will be a huge boost for their squad depth next season, which will be essential as United will likely be playing European football.
United look to ensure a Champions League position, and have spent the week in Dublin for an intensive training camp ahead of the final seven matches.
No games are being played, but Lisandro Martinez, Mason Mount and Patrick Dorgu are all a part of the travelling party, as they look to return from injury.
The Reds face Leeds United on Monday after an extensive three-week break. Hopefully, this won’t have impacted them too much, and they can return to winning ways to tighten their grip on third-place.
They’ll have to do so without the aforementioned Maguire, who is suspended after receiving a red card in the Reds’ previous game against Bournemouth.
