Two wins in two for Droylsden

After crashing out of the Edward Case Cup last week, Droylsden bounced back with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Maghull on Saturday.

A victory that moves the Bloods into third, three points behind Nelson with a game in hand.

Dave Pace’s side suffered a defeat to Maghull in October, so they were well aware that they were in for a tough test at the Butcher Arms. But the home side had the greater share of chances, hitting the post in the early stages after Ethan Carry saved Harry Forshaw’s initial effort.

Droylsden went close twice again, first through Elvis Amoakwa, before George Kattah went through on goal in the 24th minute, however, he was unable to convert, and Carry was once again able to make the stop.

Kattah was able to make up for his missed opportunity just before half-time, finding the bottom corner with a left-footed strike following Harry Forshaw’s header from a corner.

He went close to making it two in the second half, but his goal in the 82nd minute was ruled out for offside, but the Bloods were able to hold out for their ninth clean sheet in all competitions and a huge three points.

They then travelled to Premier Division side Stockport Town on Monday in the Macron Cup, coming away with a dominant 3-0 victory courtesy of a George Kattah hattrick.

After having two goals disallowed in the first half, the scoring was opened by George Kattah, getting on the end of Djankpata’s flick with the ball just crossing the line before the Stockport defence could clear it.

Droylsden continued their superiority in the second half and doubled their lead in the 55th minute, Kattah once again scoring from a Djankpata assist, this time guiding home a low driven cross from the right flank.

The hat trick was completed in eight minutes later, passing the ball into an open net following a coming together with Stockport Town’s keeper and a Droylsden forward. It’s now 12 goals in ten games for Droylsden’s new striker, who is proving to be a pivotal signing.

Droylsden return to league action on Saturday traveling to Wigan to face Ashton Town, who the Bloods have already beaten 3-1 back in August.
