Tuesday Night Football Round-Up

It was a great night for Mossley and Stalybridge Celtic, who both secured wins in different competitions.

Mossley retained their position at top of the the NPL West with a 4-0 win at Runcorn Linnets.

The Lilywhites stormed to victory thanks to four goals in the second half from Jack Grundy, Mason Fawns, Declan Evans and Bailey Marsden.

David Fish’s side will be relishing the chance to prove their quality this coming Saturday when they make the short trip to Hyde United, who compete one division above Mossley, in the FA Trophy third qualifying round.

The winner of the tie will receive a prize fund of £2450, whilst the loser will pocket £625.

Hyde arrested a four game losing run last weekend with a 3-2 win over Scarborough Athletic at Ewen Fields. The Tigers secured the win thanks to a Tom Pratt Hat-trick. Jim Gannon's side find themselves 18th in the NPL Premier Division following the win.

Elsewhere, Stalybridge Celtic progressed to the next round of the Cheshire Senior Cup with a 3-0 win at Congleton Town.

Goals from Charley Doyle and Marcus Dackers in the first half were followed up by  a Matthew Jones effort in the 64th minute.

Celtic return to Bower Fold this weekend and host Yorkshire Amateur in the FA Trophy. Simon Haworth's side enter the game as favourites given their standing in the pyramid. Amateur are currently represented in the NPL East - one division below Celtic - and are currently 12th in the table following a goalless draw with Frickley Athletic last weekend.
