Tuesday Night Football Results

A few of our local sides were in league action on Tuesday night.

In the National League North, Curzon Ashton's playoff hopes took a hit after falling to a 2-1 defeat at AFC Telford Utd.

The Nash entered the game looking to bolster their hopes of reaching the playoffs against a Telford side who are mired in a relegation scrap.

However, it was the league strugglers who took the lead at the New Bucks Head through Brendan Daniels' penalty in the 16th minute. Curzon responded well to the set back and levelled matters in the 24th minute from a set piece. A dangerous corner made its way to Harry Flowers who headed home from close range.

The sides went into the half-time break with the scores level, however it was Telford who put on the better performance in the second half, with Curzon goalkeeper Chris Renshaw forced into making a number of brilliant stops to keep the score level. But it was only a matter of time until the walls were broken and Telford scored the decisive goal with 15 minutes remaining. Liam Nolan converted the from a corner to give the Bucks a huge three points in their bid against the drop, whilst at the same time denting Curzon's playoff ambitions. The Nash return to league action on Saturday and host Gloucester City at the Tameside Stadium.

In the NPL Premier Division, Ashton United left it late to snatch three points against league leaders South Shields at Hurst Cross. Debutant Ekow Coker came up with the goods in the 88th minute and powered an unstoppable header home to give the Robins a huge three points in their fight to avoid the drop. The result gives Michael Clegg's side a nine point cushion above the relegation zone ahead of Saturday's derby against Stalybridge Celtic at Hurst Cross.

In the NPL West, Glossop North End enjoyed a 3-2 victory over Bootle the Amdek Forklift Stadium. Keaton Mulvey and a Jamie Rainford brace gave the Hillmen a deserved victory on the evening, in a result that pushes Stuart Mellish's side to 12th in the table. The Hillmen have now scored six goals in their previous two games with Rainford and Mulvey scoring three apiece. Glossop are without a fixture this weekend.
