Tintwistle girls make history

Tintwistle Athletic’s Under 12 side were recently crowned as champions of the Stockport and Cheshire Girls League, making them the first girls' side to pick up a league title in the club’s history.

In what was a closely contested campaign, the girls managed to get the job done and pick up the trophy.

Tintwistle Under 12’s (now Under 13’s) coach Adam Procter is incredibly proud of what his team has achieved:

“Last year was the team’s first competitive season, and only its second season altogether.

“We had an amazing season last time out with some really tough games, but the girls showed so much hard work and commitment.

“We scored a crazy number of goals and played some brilliant games, and we don’t really have much of break as we train during the close season too, but this has obviously paid off!”

Not only did the girls pick up the title, but they also managed to make it to the quarter finals of the cup.

Off the back of this, the team were invited to attend a girls and ladies football event at St George’s Park, the home of the England National Team.

Coach Adam Procter says this was an unforgettable experience:

“It was such a great opportunity for the girls and a great way of promoting girls' football in our local area.

“To see how well the girls did made myself and our other coach, Rachel Carrington, so proud.

“They are such a great team to coach and every one of them brings a different strength which makes things work so well.

Off the back of the title win, the side have been promoted to a higher division and will now play their football in the Under 13’s Cheshire League.

The team train on Monday evenings from 6pm at West Drive in Tintwistle in the summer months, and then move to Glossopdale School from September.

The team are always on the lookout for new players, and anyone is welcome to come down and get involved.
