Tintwistle Athletic win third trophy of the season

Tintwistle Athletic won their third trophy of the season after defeating Horwich R.M.I 4-2 in the Murray Trophy Final on Friday (19 May).

The final took place at Ewen Fields, the home of Hyde United.

Tintwistle started the game poorly, and found themselves 1-0 down at half time, thanks to a goal from Callum Reynolds just before the half-hour mark.

Tinny levelled the scoring early in the second half thanks to a Tom Beswick penalty, and took the lead moments later through James Wilson, who capitalised on an error from the Horwich goalkeeper, volleying the ball into the empty net.

Horwich did not give up hope, however, and managed to find an equaliser through Rob Gaskell, who was first to react to a cross sent in from the right, volleying the ball home from the edge of the six-yard box.

Tintwistle regained their lead soon after through a stunning long-range strike from Tom Beswick, who got his second of the evening. Nathan Neequaye’s men then put the game beyond any doubt, with substitute Dominic Dallas adding a fourth just before the end.

This cup win means Tinny have won three out of the four finals they have been involved in this season, after winning the Divisional Cup North in early April, and their reserve team winning the Manchester League Cup earlier this month, after a disappointing loss for them in the Junior Cup North Final.
