Tintwistle Athletic victorious in cup final

Derbyshire County Cup winners, Tintwistle Athletic

Tintwistle Athletic have won the Derbyshire FA Divisional Cup North, after beating Glapwell FC in the final on Tuesday (4 April) at the Impact Arena, the home of Alfreton Town.

The match was a tight affair, and both sides were defensively strong, keeping the score at 0-0 for the majority of the game before Tintwistle were awarded a penalty in the 94th minute.

Up stepped Tom Beswick who made no mistake, and fired the ball into the bottom right corner, giving Tintwistle the lead, who managed to hold on for the last few minutes and lift the trophy in front of their travelling supporters.

Penalties have been kind to Tinny throughout the tournament, with their second-round tie in the competition being decided by a shootout, after a 1-1 draw with Wirksworth Ivanhoe.

Their route to the final was not easy, needing penalties to win that first game, then facing a tough trip to Dove Holes in the Quarter-Final, then another away trip to Buxworth in the Semi-Final, before meeting Glapwell in the final.

The cup win is a huge achievement for everybody involved with the club and the community should be immensely proud of their team.

Manager Nathan Neequaye and his side will be hoping they can gain some momentum from this win and finish the season strongly, with only five games remaining in the league.
