Tintwistle Athletic Reserves victorious in cup final

Manchester Premier Cup Champions, Tintwistle Athletic Reserves

Tintwistle Athletic Reserves have won the Manchester Premier Cup after defeating Avenue FC 3-1 in the final on Tuesday (16 May).

The match was played in Oldham, at the Vestacare Stadium, the home of Avro FC. Tintwistle got off to the perfect start, taking the lead after just 15 minutes through Alex Elliott, before a first-half brace from Brandon Wood gave Tinny a 3-0 lead going into the break. Opponents Avenue FC did manage to get a goal back early in the second-half but it was not enough, with the match finishing 3-1, and Tintwistle lifting the trophy.

This match was the third final of the season for Tintwistle, whose first team played in the Derbyshire Divisional Cup North final earlier this season, winning 1-0 against Glapwell FC. The second of the finals came weeks later, when Tintwistle’s Reserves faced Shirebrook Soldiers in the Derbyshire Junior Cup North final, where they unfortunately lost 2-1 after an injury-time winner from Shirebrook.

Tintwistle can look forward to yet another final on Friday (19 May), in what will be their fourth of the season, when their first team face Horwich R.M.I in the MFL Murray Trophy final, which will be played at Ewen Fields Stadium, the home of Hyde United.

Should Tinny lift the trophy, it would be their third cup win of the campaign, which would cap off what has been a terrific season for the club.
