Tight at the top in the DCCL

It’s holiday season and, despite many teams low on numbers this week, a full day’s play was had in the DCCL, sponsored by Complete Weed Control, on Saturday 17th August.

The First Division fixtures are summarised below. With only five remaining fixtures to play, the league tables are tight, and points are precious for those with eyes on the top slot.

Hayfield CC vs Tintwistle CC

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first. Tintwistle used their full 45 overs to make 226-8. Atley Williams top scored on 54 runs (9 fours and 2 sixes) and Bradley Rawlinson made 49 not out. There were 4 wickets for Hayfield’s Jack Cook (4-39 from 12 with 2 maidens). In response, Hayfield reached 167 all out (39.3) with a cracking knock from Aaron Ostilly who made 75 runs (12 fours and 2 sixes). Tintwistle’s Matthew Robinson took 5-42 (10.3) with 2 maidens. Tintwistle won by 59 runs. [Hayfield 7 points, Tintwistle 20 points]

New Mills CC vs Newton CC

Newton won the toss and elected to field first, putting New Mills in to bat. New Mills made 164-7 (45). In response, Newton made 167-9 (43.5). Newton won by 1 wicket. [New Mills 7 points, Newton 16 points]

Old Glossop CC vs Hazel Grove CC

Old Glossop won the toss and elected to bat first. Old Glossop made 259-6 (45) with a solid batting partnership from Callan Kean (93 runs, 13 fours and 2 sixes) and Tom Lane (76 runs, 11 fours and 1 six). Havel Grove’s K. Arora took 4 wickets (4-40 from 12 overs, with 2 maidens). In response, Hazel Grove could only reach 134-6 (45) with K. Arora hitting a stable 43 runs (from 103 balls). There were 3 wickets for Old Glossop’s Akhil Kalavagunta (3-38 from 12 overs, 3 maidens). Old Glossop won by 125 runs. [Old Glossop 18 points, Hazel Grove 5 points]

Pott Shrigley CC vs Dove Holes CC

The home team won the toss and elected to field first, putting Dove Holes in to bat. Dove Holes made 183-6 form their full 45 overs, Joe Gregory top scoring on 54 not out. In response, Pott Shrigley made it to 153 all out (44.1) starting with a strong opening partnership before the wickets came. James Hutter top scored with 34 runs. Dove’s Joe Gregory took 4-23 (11) and Dave Cartledge took 3-38 (8). Dove Holes won by 30 runs. [Pott Shrigley 6 points, Dove Holes 19 points]

Stalybridge CC vs Dinting CC

Stalybridge won the toss and elected to bat first. Stalybridge made 169 all out (37) with Mike Whitworth making 47 runs, and Danny Humphreys making 40 runs. Dinting’s Zack Winterbottom took an impressive 4-15 (8) including 4 maidens. In response, Dinting closed down the target and made 172-8 (43.3) with Thomas Pugh top scoring on 50 not out. Stalybridge’s Zeeshan Naseer took 4-50 (12) with 1 maiden. Dinting won by 2 wickets. [Stalybridge 7 points, Dinting 19 points]

Whaley Bridge CC vs Broadbottom CC

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first. Broadbottom made 226-7 (45) with Joe Brotherton making 53 and Seb Croft making 50 runs. Whaley’s Henry Holden took 4-40 (10) with 2 maidens. In response, Whaley Bridge reached just 148 all out (42). Jake Higginbotham made

46 runs. There were 3 wickets apiece for Broadbottom’s Jonathon Booth (3-35 from 11, 4 maidens) and Oscar Pratt (3-22 from 6 overs). Broadbottom won by 78 runs. [Whaley Bridge 5 points, Broadbottom 20 points]
