Tigers move up to 6th in the table

Hyde United moved up to 6th in the table on Tuesday (24 October), after a 2-0 home win over Ilkeston Town.

A minute's applause took place before kick-off in honour of former Tigers Chairman, Secretary and Supporters club secretary Dave Goodwin.

Hosts Hyde had the first chance of the game when winger Antoine Makoli’s shot was deflected behind for a corner.

Then came the first attempt from the visitors, when Brandy’s shot was held onto well by on-loan goalkeeper Sam Waller.

Another great opportunity for the Tigers came moments later when winger Makoli was played in once again after a wonderful passage of play, but he dragged his shot just wide of the Ilkeston goal.

New signing Will Russ was thrown straight into action just hours after his signing from Marine was confirmed, but he only lasted for just under ten minutes when his debut was cut short by injury. He was replaced by forward Lewis Alessandra.

Minutes later the other newly announced singing, Doherty, was in action when his shot from just inside the box was fired over the crossbar.

Just before the hour mark came another great opportunity for the hosts, when Matty Fearnley turned his man and slipped in Harry Bunn, whose shot flew just wide.

Hyde then had a goal disallowed when Fearnley was at the heart of it again, finding Alessandra who found the net on the turn, only for the celebrations to be halted, when the linesman’s flag was raised.

Nick Spooner’s men finally made their dominance count early in the second half when Antoine Makoli burst down the line and drilled the ball across for the oncoming Alessandra, who tapped the ball home to make it 1-0.

Their lead was doubled soon after when the man of the moment Jack Redshaw flew down the right wing and unleashed a dipping effort which flew over the head of Yates in the Ilkeston goal and into the net.

A crucial three points for the Tigers, who needed to get back to winning ways after their narrow 1-0 defeat to Warrington Rylands over the weekend.

Up next for them on Saturday (28 October) is an away trip to Nuneaton Borough in the FA Trophy First Round.
