Belle Vue Colts give a home debut to Britain’s youngest Speedway rider tonight (2 August – 7.30pm) when 15-year-old William Cairns takes his place in the Belle Vue team to face National League rivals Oxford, at Manchester’s National Speedway Stadium.

Cairns is the hottest prospect in youth Speedway, and had been tracked by every club in the country, all eager to sign him up once he reached his 15th birthday, the youngest age for a rider to participate in the British National League.

But it is Belle Vue who have won the race for his signature, on a deal for the remainder of the year plus the 2025 season.

The youngster is the reigning British Youth 250c.c. Champion and recently finished third in the World 250c.c. Championship, and makes his home debut on Friday.

“It was an opportunity we didn’t want to miss and we’re thrilled to have him on board with us at Belle Vue. He is an amazing talent and we’re very much looking forward to seeing him in action on Friday.”

Cairns said “I’m super excited to be linking up with Belle Vue for the rest of 2024. I love the National Speedway Stadium and this club (Belle Vue) was my top choice to race for.”

Before Friday’s National League encounter with Oxford (7.30pm), Belle Vue stage the third round of the British Youth Championship (6.00pm), and Cairns will star in the 500c.c. class.

He already leads the British Youth Championship having won both of the opening rounds at Redcar and Workington with unbeaten scores. Tickets for Friday’s meeting are available in advance from www.bellevue-speedway.com or from the stadium ticket office on the day. Children under 12 years of age are admitted free of charge with an accompanying adult.

The National League meeting starts at 7.30pm, but spectators can watch the British Youth Championship round from 6.00pm
