Fourteen-year-old Daisey, from Audenshaw, has added another remarkable achievement to her growing weightlifting career after securing third place at the British Weightlifting Championships.
Already the reigning English champion, Daisey represented Team Manchester in the under-15s F53 category, competing against some of the strongest young lifters in the UK. The competition brought together the best from across the nations, with first place going to the Welsh champion and second to the Northern Irish champion.
In the snatch, where lifters raise the bar from the ground to overhead in a single movement, Daisey recorded successful lifts at 50kg and 53kg, narrowly missing her third attempt at 56kg. Her 53kg effort was enough to secure her second place in the snatch rankings.
She followed this with a determined display in the clean and jerk – a two-part lift moving the bar from floor to shoulders, then overhead. Daisey completed 60kg and 65kg successfully, with her final attempt at 68kg just out of reach. Her best lift of 65kg placed her fourth in that event.
Together, her lifts gave her a 118kg total, landing her the overall bronze medal position in the national competition.
Not only did Daisey achieve the bronze, she also hit multiple personal bests in the competition too.
Speaking after the championships, Daisey reflected on the dedication that brought her to the podium: “I was training three, four times a week and I was training hard. I didn’t miss a single session. It was hard, but you just got to keep going.”
She described the thrill of competing at such a high level: “It was so cool, just stepping on that platform and showing what I can do. It’s like all my hard work paid off. I was over the moon.”
And while delighted with her own success, she was quick to praise her fellow lifters: “It was quite tough but all the competitors did so well.”
Competing against girls up to two years older than her, Daisey’s performance marks her out as one of the most promising young talents in British weightlifting. With her determination, skill, and passion for the sport, she looks set to lift even higher in the years ahead.
