Tameside United Ladies claim first victory of the season

Tameside United Ladies 4-3 Rochdale Ladies

Tameside United picked up their first three points of the season after last week's narrow loss to Langho Ladies FC.

The Tigers started slowly in the game as Rochdale dominated the opening ten minutes creating chances down the United left side. However they weren't able to carve out any real goal scoring opportunities.

Tameside United grew into the game and were rewarded with a penalty on 20 minutes after the Dale defender handled in the box, Laura Day stepped up. However her powerful shot was saved by the Dale keeper.

Tameside were picking up free kicks within shooting distance as Nicole and Rhiannon were able to drive the ball at the heart of the Dale defence, as slowly the Tigers started dominating the game.

The opening goal fell to Laura Day after some good wide play through Nicole Denton set her up to spin and shoot beyond the Dale keeper.

Rochdale soon levelled though from a corner ball to make it 1 -1 going in at half time.

Tameside came out in the second half the brighter of the two teams and pressed high up the pitch. Paige O'Leary was the first to score with a thunderous 30 yarder which gave the keeper no chance.

Tameside again had a penalty as Nicole Denton was brought down in the area and Laura Day this time scored to make it 3-1.

The game was put to rest a few minutes later as O'Leary grabbed her second of the game with some good short interplay for a tap in to make it 4-1.

Tameside looked comfortable for the rest of the game, except for a barmy final three minutes where Rochdale grabbed a late goal on the 87th minute, followed four minutes later in extra time with the ball coming off the post and the referee adjudging it had crossed the line.
