Tameside’s Sala Futsal Club were crowned national champions last month after a dominant performance in the National Futsal League T3 Final.
The club’s men’s side romped to victory in the capital, with a 9-1 demolition of Newham Futsal Club earning them promotion to T2 – the second highest futsal division in the country.
Leading the scoring was teenage Sala graduate Lewis Lambkin, who netted four times in May’s final showdown, as did fellow home grown 16-year-old Sam Dixon.
Sala confirmed their place in the final by finishing top of the T3.1 North at the first time of asking, comfortably seeing off their East London based opponents who finished as T3.1 South title winners.
The achievement is made even more remarkable by the fact that this was the club’s first ever season competing in men’s futsal, with the title win building on their impressive reputation within youth futsal, having won multiple youth titles over recent years.
Following the triumph, first team manager and club captain Oscar Lucas commented:
“This title is an incredible achievement for everyone connected with Sala.
“To win a national title in our very first men’s season is something truly special.
“Seeing players who have developed through our pathway from a young age now performing on the national stage shows what the club is all about.”
