Tameside sport club looking to net £2,000 in crowdfunder

One of the country’s top netball clubs have launched a crowdfunder to help with running costs ahead of the new 2024/25 season.

Tameside Netball Club play in the Premier League 1 – the highest level of amateur competition in the country – and have more than 200 members, aged between 6 and 55 years old, who turn out at every age group from Under-7s through to the senior squad.

“We are seeing regular increases to our club's running costs,” said club coach Nick Hill. “Court hire, umpires, equipment and medical supplies.

“In addition, our National Prem Squad will face increased transport and hotel costs as they travel up and down the county to compete. Instead of passing these costs onto the players and parents, who are already under financial pressure due to the current cost of living crisis, we are looking to crowdfund.

“We would also like to invest in the development of our coaches who would then assist in the development of our teams at junior, senior and National level.”

The club, which nurtured future England stars including Eleanor Cardwell, Josie Gibson and current Roses vice-captain Amy Carter, aims to raise £2,000.

Tameside finished 9th of 10 teams in the Premier League 1 last season, and will rack up thousands of miles on the road next campaign as they travel to the likes of London, Norfolk and Essex.

“The club plays an important part in sport participation for all the community and by developing and expanding our coaching pool we can reinvest further in the community by holding netball camps, going into schools to support teachers,” Hill continued.

“It will encourage children to become more active and we will continue to grow our 'back to netball' sessions, which again aims to get people active and return to a sport they once played.”

People can donate to Tameside Netball Club on their Crowdfunder page.
