Tameside 5k Festival set to return

After the success of October’s inaugural event, the Tameside 5k Festival is set to return next month.

The event, which takes place on Saturday March 8, sees Active Tameside and the Local Runners Podcast team up once again to bring you one of the most exciting local races around.

The event will see runners tackle just over five laps of the flat, traffic free course at the Tameside Cycle Circuit in Ashton-under-Lyne.

As was the case last year, runners will be grouped across four separate races depending on their 5k times, meaning all abilities are welcome.

In a bid to make the event even more inclusive this time around, the organisers have added a ‘Family Mile’, which allows children aged 12 and below to take part in a shorter race with their parent or guardian/s.

Ahead of the event, co-race director Gavin Browne said:

“We had 130 people take part in October and we’re looking to build on that this time around.

“We have races for people looking to finish in 15 minutes all the way up to the open race for those with a time of between 25 and 50 minutes, so we have a wide range of abilities taking part.

“We’ve also added the family element to the event this year with the addition of the ‘family mile’, where kids can take part with their parents- we just wanted to try and make it as inclusive as possible.”

The family mile will get underway from 3:30pm, before the four main races, with the festival due to finish around 7pm.

Following the races, there will be a presentation at the East Cheshire Harriers clubhouse, where food and drink will be available.

Tickets for the Tameside 5k Festival are selling fast, and whilst these can be purchased on the day, the organisers have advised runners to pre-book their tickets online to avoid disappointment.
