All square in battle of the Robins

A second half equaliser from visiting winger Ash Hunter saw the battle of the two Robins teams finish all square at Hurst Cross after a much livelier second period. 

The hosts rested both their full backs allowing Spencer Knight to deputise at right back and Mo Doro on the opposite wing, the latter picking up an early booking for a late challenge on Sam Newell.

On a breezy evening an early strike from Jevin Seaton brought an easy low save out of Taylor and it took until three minutes before the break for another effort to be registered on target as Dan Turner headed the home side in front from Alex Byrne’s return ball after Justin Johnson’s dangerous cross had only just been cleared by Theo Robinson.

The Robins of Ashton opened the second half in determined fashion as Kurt Willoughby’s far post attempt just evaded the sliding Byrne and Johnson’s shot was blocked for a throw in after a good set up by Knight. 

Ten minutes into the half a good run by Hunter ended with his shot stinging Taylor’s palms before Johnson’s far post effort was blocked and he switched onto his left foot to glance the crossbar.

Just past the hour mark Seaton’s header was uncomfortably close for the home side as Knight picked up a booking for stopping the tricky Hunter. 

With 14 minutes left the equaliser arrived as a right wing cross was controlled by Anthony Dwyer for Hunter to fire home close in and Colin Daniel’s effort on the turn was then just too high as he collected Seaton’s knock down.

James Hardy was then set free into the area from where he fired just too high and Knight’s cross won a corner off Robinson which ended with Hardy firing past the near post. 

In added time Hunter’s cross beat everyone before he was just denied by Taylor as he tried to reach Lewis Belgrave’s delivery and after Hunter’s latest effort was blocked Harry Wakefield was denied by the foot of Taylor.
