Last Saturday saw the fourth edition of the highly anticipated Tameside 5K Festival take place at the Tameside Cycle Circuit in Ashton, which was organised jointly by the Local Runners Podcast and Active Tameside.
This year’s event was bigger than ever, with over 300 runners taking part across the five races.
The ‘A race’ saw Sale Harriers’ Paul Peters cross the line first with a time of 15 minutes and 11 seconds - the quickest time of the day.
James Rook of East Cheshire Harriers raced to victory in the ‘B race’, finishing in 17 minutes and 43 seconds, while Mishka Pillay’s time of 19:49 saw him edge the ‘C race’ by a meagre two seconds.
Finally, the ‘D race’ was won by Settle Harriers’ Arthur Grenfell, who finished in just 18 minutes and one second.
This year’s edition of the event also saw the return of the popular family mile, which encouraged youngsters to get involved along with their families.
Following the event, Active Tameside’s Gavin Browne commented:
“It’s been another successful event with our highest attendance yet.
“Over 300 people took part with 40 children taking part in the family mile and 275 taking part in the four graded 5k events throughout the day.
“We managed to get good weather conditions again and we had a DJ which created a brilliant atmosphere.”
