Table toppers too much for Hillmen

Glossop put in a tremendous performance against league leaders Littleborough and there was no shame in this defeat. 

Although the visitors put the Hillmen under pressure right from the start, Glossop’s defence was resolute and held them out for the majority of the first half. 

However, the pressure eventually told and a converted try from the Lancashire side saw them lead 7-0. 

They pushed further ahead with a penalty to extend their lead to 10-0 .

Glossop then got a try of their own on the stroke of half time as swift passing found flyhalf Dearing lurking on the wing to dot down. 

His conversion attempt was unsuccessful so at the break it was 5-10.

Glossop have some promising youngsters in their line up and it was fullback Griffiths who showed his skill and pace to intercept and sprint fifty metres for a converted try to see Glossop lead 12-10. 

Littleborough’s big pack then caused disruption in the home side’s defence and a converted try saw them regain the lead at 17-12. 

Glossop were then reduced to 14 men for 10 minutes as second row Grime received a yellow card for a high tackle. 

The tide then turned more heavily in Littleborough’s favour and two tries, one converted, saw Glossop behind at 29-12. 

The Hillmen skipper Zak Round then got a try back for Glossop which Dearing converted to see the deficit reduced to 19-29. 

The final score of the match fell to the visitors as they slotted a penalty at the death to take home a deserved 32-19 victory. 

Captain Round had special praise for back rower Alex Kempley who was prominent in both attack and defence and who has been a great addition to the squad this season. 

Glossop’s next game is in two weeks time, at home against Tyldesley.
