Support our non-league football clubs this weekend

After the good news that fans are allowed back in some non-league grounds at a reduced capacity, two of our clubs need your support on Saturday.

It was confirmed on Wednesday that clubs between steps three and six of the football pyramid can once again welcome spectators from this weekend, at a reduced capacity of 15 per cent initially - which is set to increase to 30 per cent from 31 August.

Of course, social distancing must be followed at all times and fans must adhere to all of the Covid-19 guidelines, to ensure the safety of everyone in attendance.

It follows months of hibernation for our local football teams, with clubs having not been allowed to open their gates to spectators since March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As clubs prepare for the 2020-21 campaign, pre-season friendlies which have taken place so far have had to be played behind closed doors.

But now the first tentative steps can be taken to get fans back into grounds, and all of our local clubs need your support now more than ever.

On Saturday, both Ashton United and Stalybridge Celtic are playing at home, so why not head down to Hurst Cross or Bower Fold to safely take in some football? Here's the key info you need...

Ashton United

It's been a positive start to pre-season for the Robins and Michael Clegg's side will come up against a team from newly-promoted League One club Swindon Town on Saturday afternoon.

In total, 300 spectators will be allowed to attend and it should be a good game to watch.

Kick-off will be at 1pm. Tickets are just £5 and can be purchased from the club website at https://ashtonunitedfc.ktckts.com/event/ashpre001/ashton-united-v-swindon-town

Stalybridge Celtic

Things are looking rosy for Simon Haworth's side, who are unbeaten in their five pre-season outings so far - winning four of those games.

The club has confirmed that 300 fans will be allowed to watch their next pre-season friendly on Saturday against West Didsbury & Chorlton. It will be the first time spectators have been allowed at Bower Fold since 7 March.

Tickets will be £5 for adults and £3 for concessions but will only be available on the gate, which will be open from 1.30pm ahead of kick-off at 3pm.
