Stride Out For A Charity Of Your Choosing With The Schofield Fitness 10k

With lighter nights and warmer days to come, runners are being encouraged to take on a new challenge in a bid to raise funds for a charity of their choosing.

The brand new run, dubbed the Schofield Fitness Tameside 10k, is the brainchild of professional boxer Charlie Schofield, who is looking for experienced and inexperienced runners to set themselves a goal and get fitter in the process.

Charlie, who fought on the undercard of Amir Khan vs Kell Brook at the AO Arena in February, has already received a good response since announcing the event just over two weeks ago.

And with better weather to come, the 29-year-old is expecting a new wave of applicants to come on board and tackle the challenge. Speaking to Reporter Sport, Charlie, a former Ashton-Sixth-Form pupil, said: "I want to get the community moving more, and speaking from experience, I think you need a goal to get yourself moving. Creating the Schofield Fitness 10k gives people a reason to get outside and enjoy their exercise.

"Everyone is welcome to join this race, from the seasoned athlete to a complete beginner. When you sign up to the event you receive a 10km training plan, which is similar to the Couch to 5KM plan. We'll start small with baby steps and build it up weeks by week, and before you know it you'll be able to complete the full 10km.

"On social media the response has been good, but there's also a real buzz around the gym with people enquiring. The race itself will finish at the Rising Moon, so it's a good spot for people to gather and have a drink to celebrate. There will be a DJ playing music, so it will be a really nice atmosphere as the participants cross the finish line and then raise a toast to their achievement."

The race will officially start at 10am at Ultimate Fitness in Stalybridge, taking in a number of hills before finishing at the Rising Moon Pub on Matley Lane in Hyde. Charlie believes the best way to prepare for the event is to complete various forms of training, which can usually be found in a bootcamp environment that combines weight training and cardiovascular activity.
