Stalybridge Celtic’s relegation confirmed

Bower Fold, Stalybridge Celtic

Stalybridge Celtic have been relegated to the Northern Premier League West Division after they were beaten 4-2 by Marske United on Tuesday (18 April).

Despite their best efforts in the North East, scoring two goals late on, it was too little too late, and a hat trick from Adam Boyes had ultimately sealed their fate. A sad day for everyone involved with the club, one which caps off what has been a miserable season for Chris Willcock’s men.

Celtic looked to be in a relatively safe position at the start of 2023, but a dismal run of form pulled them back down into the danger zone, having won only one game since the start of January.

This comes at the worst possible time for Celtic, with the club currently going through financial troubles, and relegation will certainly not help their cause.

On a more positive note, their relegation will set up a local derby in the league next season, with Mossley retaining their place in the Northern Premier League West Division.

Celtic conclude their season on Saturday (22 April), when they welcome Atherton Collieries to Bower Fold, in what will be their final game in the division, at least for now.
