Spooner swaps Ewen Fields for Gigg Lane

Hyde United fan favourite Callum Spooner has left the club to join NPL West new boys Bury.

The midfielder rejoined the Tigers last October after a short spell at Southport, playing 12 times for the National League North side before returning to Ewen Fields.

The 27-year-old has been a crucial cog in Hyde’s midfield over the past three seasons and has made over 100 appearances for his father Nick’s side.

Speaking on his departure, Callum told his new club’s media team:

“I’m delighted to sign for the club, from the outside you can see how different it is from other clubs at this level.

“Then after speaking to the management team, it was obvious that the style of play and ambitions suit mine as a player, so it was an easy decision to sign for Bury.”

One player who won’t be leaving this summer is last season’s captain and top goalscorer Jack Redshaw, who is contracted to the club until the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

Elsewhere, Matt Fearnley, Shakeel Jones-Griffiths and Ryan White have also committed their futures to the club.
